Design Manager

You will be responsible for managing the User Experience and Design team for the Yahoo! Living Room group, which consists of a team of interaction designers, visual designers, user researchers, and web developers. This teamıs opportunity is to define and develop a growing suite of Yahoo! living room and set-top products for navigating and managing personal content and broadcast media. You will provide direction to the design team as well as to product teams and are expected to help foster and support a collaborative, innovative culture. In this position you will work with technologists and business strategists to define the experience for the future of Yahoo! Living room and set-top applications.

Responsibilities:

• Help define the next generation of living room and set-top applications
• Apply user-centered experience design practice by giving direction to and leading product design and user research, resulting in high quality, innovative, user experiences
• Oversee multiple projects simultaneously from planning to launch
• Define priorities and manage resources as appropriate across projects
• Communicate with all levels of management and across multi-disciplinary teams throughout all phases of projects
• Managing and mentoring designers; writing performance reviews; determining compensation and career growth for designers

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years experience managing a large design team with company-wide impact, and 7 years experience in product design, interaction design, Human Factors, HCI, industrial design, or related area
• Experience managing a UI team through the complete product development cycle of several successfully launched interactive television application products
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Experience with shipping products for large consumer audiences
• Experience working on strategic projects, and proven ability to innovate
• Able to demonstrate strong design process and skills; familiarity with usability engineering methodologies
• Communicate clearly and effectively; strong analytical and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team
• Organized and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced and exciting environment
• Solid understanding of the specific challenges of designing for the living room audience
• Passion for developing innovative interfaces for the living room and set-top space

Interaction Designer

As an Interaction designer at Yahoo! you will work closely with interaction/UI designers, usability researchers, producers and engineers to develop the visual UI for Yahoo! Living Room Group. You will work with the visual design team in the development and application of network-wide visual guidelines. Responsibilities include: ensuring the consistent visual presentation of several Yahoo! properties; translating UI requirements into online visual user interfaces; being instrumental in the development of Yahoo! visual style; and creating prototypes in HTML. Requirements: Candidates must have a solid understanding of user-centered design principles and a desire to contribute to the constant development of a large network of products. Attention to detail, ability to write and debug clean html and a formal visual design education are required.Other requirements include professional web development experience; solid knowledge of major core web graphics tools; solid understanding of web graphics techniques; mastery of graphic design and web design principles, typography, color and page layout; strong creative and visual skills; strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently as well as with a group.
