NBC boasts that it's the first TV network to launch an app dedicated to its evening newscast. Its app for NBC Nightly news with Brian Williams, which launched Monday on Google's Android Market, lets viewers watch various segments from each night's show, in addition to the entire broadcast. It also lets users browse story headlines and read a daily blog written by Williams.
-- Moderators to Cite Data from Live IntoNow Social Polls in Questions for Candidates
Three months after Yahoo signed a broad partnership agreement with ABC News, the Internet giant's IntoNow social TV subsidiary will be spotlighted during a debate featuring Republican presidential candidates on Saturday.
IntoNow said viewers that tag the debate on ABC will be able to participate in polls. The moderators plan to cite data from the polls in questions for the candidates.
IntoNow isn't the first social network to gain exposure through a presidential debate. YouTube and Twitter have been involved in previous debates, with moderators using questions submitted via YouTube videos or Twitter messages for the candidates.

In an effort to increase the amount of time Web surfers spend watching videos on its site, YouTube flipped the switch on a major redesign Thursday afternoon that emphasizes channels of content. The move comes one month after YouTube announced deals with dozens of independent producers to supply it with 100 channels of original programming. "We're trying very hard to marry the best of TV and the best of online," YouTube VP of product development Shishir Mehrotra said at an event at the company's San Bruno, Calif., headquarters. YouTube said Friday that it will launch 100 original channels next month that will feature programming supplied by celebrities and producers of news, entertainment and sports programming. Madonna, Shaquille O'Neil, Jay-Z, Reuters and comic book legend Stan Lee are among the content suppliers.

A Google TV software upgrade that the search giant plans to begin rolling out next week includes a new "TV & Movies" app that allows users to browse titles of more than 80,000 movies and TV episodes from both TV networks and online video providers, including HBO Go, Netflix and YouTube.

YouTube users can now edit videos after uploading them to the site, after the company struck a deal with WeVideo to integrate its cloud-based video editing platform. The free, YouTube version of WeVideo's editing tool is available at YouTube.com/create. The YouTube WeVideo tool features a drag-and-drop design interface for music, transitions and titles. YouTube's move to integrate WeVideo's editing platform could make it easier for users that upload video with mobile phones or tablets to edit their videos.
