Justin.tv Rolls Out Deeper Integration with Facebook

In a posting on its corporate blog last week, Justin.tv, a San Francisco-based company that bills itself as "the largest online community for people to broadcast, watch and interact around live video," announced that it has rolled out deeper Facebook integration, in order to help users to discover their Facebook friends on its service and to enable them to share more easily on Facebook when they broadcast.

Multiplatform encoding solutions specialist, Envivio (note: the company recently launched iLiveTV, a mobile video encoding and distribution solution for evaluating, developing and deploying live and on-demand video services for the Apple iPhone--see the article published on itvt.com, June 9th), announced Friday the immediate availability of what it claims is the first complete encoding and DRM protected distribution solution optimized for Microsoft's newly launched Silverlight 3 platform.

ffwd Launches Facebook App to Facilitate Use of Web Video in a Social Network Strategy

Social TV/navigation company, ffwd (the company describes its goals as to "reinterpret the television channel from the perspective of crowd sourcing, personalization and the social graph" and to "make the ever-expanding video Web easier to navigate"), announced earlier this month the release of a Facebook application which it says will make it easier for "celebrities, companies, organizations and their fans" to make relevant video content discoverable through their social networks.

PBS Launches a Broadband Video Portal

US public broadcaster, PBS, announced Wednesday the beta launch of a new PBS Video Portal (pbs.org/video) that features on-demand full-length PBS programs in multiple genres, as well as content from local PBS stations--all viewable through what the broadcaster describes as a "state-of-the-art" player. PBS says that the portal will eventually also offer feature-length films and documentaries, as well as live events and performances.
