MIG Wins Extension of its Contract to Power Mobile Interactive TV Services for Channel 5

Mobile Interactive Group (MIG), a UK-based company that specializes in enabling mobile phone-based interactive TV experiences, said Monday that it has secured a two-year renewal of its contract with UK commercial terrestrial broadcaster, Channel 5, to power all the latter's mobile interactive services. A Polish start-up called zubibu has launched a shopping cart-style tcommerce application for connected-TV devices. Dubbed zubibu@TV, the app will initially be available--a few weeks from now--free of charge in the Samsung Apps store, for Samsung TV sets and Blu-ray players equipped with the CE manufacturer's Internet@TV platform.

Munich-based augmented reality specialist, metaio, has teamed with the UK's Royal Mail service; near field communication (NFC) and 2D bar coding specialist, RBIT; and digital marketing agency, m2end, to add a thematically related interactive enhancement to the Royal Mail's new "Great British Railway" special stamp issue.
AIME Trumpets Success of its Lobbying Efforts to Bring Back SMS-Based Interactive TV Voting in UK

UK incumbent telco, BT, plans to let viewers decide the outcome of a new storyline in its long-running series of commercials featuring the characters, Adam (played by Kris Marshall) and Jane (played by Esther Hall), the Guardian reported Monday.
UK Broadcaster, Five, Withdraws from Project Canvas
The partners behind Project Canvas--an initiative that sees 1) the BBC and other UK public-service broadcasters, 2) UK ISP's, BT and TalkTalk, and 3) UK broadcast transmission company, Arqiva, partnering in order to attempt to develop a common standard and interface for the delivery of online catch-up services such as the BBC iPlayer, the ITV player and 4oD, as well as other Internet-based services (including VOD and interactive TV widgets), to broadband-connected Freeview and Freesat set-top boxes--announced last Friday that public-service broadcaster, Five, is ceasing its participation in the initiative, pending a review of its digital investment strategy.
LOVEFiLM Launches OTT Service on Internet@TV-Enabled Samsung TV's in the UK
UK-based video rental subscription service, LOVEFiLM, has announced the availability of its OTT service on new Samsung TV's in the UK. The service is currently available to LOVEFiLM customers with unlimited subscription packages on all Samsung TV models equipped with the consumer electronics manufacturer's Internet@TV platform, and is slated to launch on its Blu-ray players and home theater systems at a later date. LOVEFiLM has previously launched its service HDTV's, Blu-ray players and home theater systems from Sony.
