  • In an effort to increase the amount of time Web surfers spend watching videos on its site, YouTube flipped the switch on a major redesign Thursday afternoon that emphasizes channels of content. The move comes one month after YouTube announced deals with dozens of independent producers to supply it with 100 channels of original programming. "We're trying very hard to marry the best of TV and the best of online," YouTube VP of product development Shishir Mehrotra said at an event at the company's San Bruno, Calif., headquarters. YouTube to Launch 100 Original Channels

YouTube said Friday that it will launch 100 original channels next month that will feature programming supplied by celebrities and producers of news, entertainment and sports programming. Madonna, Shaquille O'Neil, Jay-Z, Reuters and comic book legend Stan Lee are among the content suppliers. 

Upgraded Google TV Features New 'TV & Movies' and NASCAR Apps

A Google TV software upgrade that the search giant plans to begin rolling out next week includes a new "TV & Movies" app that allows users to browse titles of more than 80,000 movies and TV episodes from both TV networks and online video providers, including HBO Go, Netflix and YouTube

  • PBS Kids launched a series of interactive videos and games based on its "Super Why" and "Dinosaur Train" series. The "play-along" videos and games -- designed for preschoolers – challenge kids to complete tasks such as matching items of the correct size or finding the correct words to complete a sentence. PBS said it will also launch a play-along video for "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!" in 2012. More

Cable Operators Test Sharing of Premium Content on Home Network Devices

 

CableLabs said it recently hosted a demonstration that saw 10 industry technology suppliers showing how they could share premium content from a DVR on a home network, shuttling the content to connected TVs and other devices. It also demonstrated how to use a mobile phone to select content form a home network device, and control playing that content on another device such as a TV set.
