Roku Slashes Prices of its OTT Set-Tops, Announces Plans to Support 1080p

OTT specialist, Roku, announced Monday that it has significantly reduced the prices of the three set-top boxes that make up its product line: the Roku SD is now priced at $59.99 (i.e. $20 less than before), while the Roku HD and HD-XR are now priced at $69.99 and $99.99 respectively (i.e. $30 less than before). All three models have integrated WiFi; the HD supports HD streaming via HDMI and component, while the HD-XR has all the features offered by the HD, but adds dual-band WiFi N and a USB port.

Clearleap, RCDb Partner on Solution that Transforms Blu-ray Players into VOD-Enabled Cable Boxes

--Solution Billed as Providing Cable with a "Counter Offer" to Direct-to-Consumer OTT Services

Clearleap, a company which offers a cloud-based content management, delivery and advertising platform for bringing Internet-sourced video content to television sets, and Related Content Database (RCDb), a company which offers a software platform that it bills as enabling customers to rapidly integrate and deploy a range of Web services to managed-network set-top boxes, connected TV's and Blu-ray discs and players, said Tuesday that they have developed a joint solution that will allow pay-TV operators to deliver their full VOD libraries to any subscriber equipped with an Internet-connected Blu-ray player. The companies unveiled the solution at the CableLabs Summer Conference, which is taking place this week in Keystone, CO.

Sonic Solutions in OTT Deal with Consumer Electronics Manufacturer, Haier

OTT video infrastructure provider, Sonic Solutions, said Tuesday that Haier, a Chinese manufacturer of home appliances and consumer electronics, has chosen its RoxioNow platform to enable delivery of a library of Hollywood movies and TV shows over the Web to a new line of Haier-branded Blu-ray players and HDTV sets. "Digital movie services powered by the RoxioNow platform will play an important role in our next-generation connected devices and help make it easy for consumers to browse, purchase and enjoy the best in digital entertainment from the comfort of their living rooms," Doug Lane, president of Haier Digital Products Group for the Americas, said in a prepared statement.
