Latens, Indieon Partner on Set-Top Box, Middleware and Security Solution for Satellite-TV Operators

Latens, a Belfast-based company that specializes in DVB-compliant conditional access and middleware technologies, contacted [itvt] Monday to let us know that it has partnered with Indian set-top box and middleware company, Indieon Technologies, to develop what the companies are billing as a secure, cardless, one-way broadcasting solution for DTH operators globally. The solution has been deployed by Nepal's Dish TV, the companies say.

Dreampark Provides Frontend TV Middleware Solution to Finland's Maxisat

--Solution Billed as Letting Operators Deploy Advanced UI, without Swapping out Existing Infrastructure

Swedish middleware (cable, terrestrial, IPTV) provider, Dreampark, said Wednesday that it has supplied a frontend middleware solution to Finnish pay-TV operator, Maxisat. According to the company, Maxisat is the first Finnish operator to offer TV and OTT services using a scalable vector graphics (SVG) client, allowing for high-definition user interfaces. The frontend solution delivered by Dreampark is based on the company's Dreamgallery Next Generation platform which is based on SVG and which it says allows operators to deploy a "cutting-edge" user interface without a complicated and costly change-out of their entire TV infrastructure.

In a press release in which it announced its financial results for the first half of 2010, the Kudelski Group, the company which last fall acquired full control of pioneering interactive TV middleware provider, OpenTV (see the article published on itvt.com, November 16th), revealed that it has, since then, been investing heavily in its middleware operations: "Personnel expenses rose by CHF [i.e. Swiss Francs] 20.5 million from the first half 2009, representing an 11.1% increase to reach CHF 205.7 million," the company stated.

Australia's FetchTV Selects Orca Interactive IPTV Middleware

Zappware's iView Middleware Powering Hybrid DTT/IPTV Service in Croatia and Slovenia

Belgian interactive TV technology provider, Zappware, contacted [itvt] Wednesday to let us know that it has deployed its iView middleware platform with Slovenian telecom operator, Amis. The platform is powering a service, called AmisTV2.0, which launched commercially last September in Slovenia and Croatia and which offers such services as network PVR, pause-live-TV, restart TV, catch-up TV, and an EPG, as well as VOD services that feature reminders, favorites, user profiles, application skinning, search and parental ratings.

OpenTV Partners with Coverity to Enhance its Middleware Testing Environment

Kudelski-owned interactive TV and advanced advertising technology provider, OpenTV, on Wednesday announced a partnership with Coverity, a provider of "software integrity" solutions, that it says will complement its middleware testing environment.
