ScreenShot GalleryTranscast Zenith Offering Integrated Telecruz TV's in Early 2001 The Consumer Electronics Show this year in early Janauary will probably be buzzing with all sorts of products to demo, but one will be unique. Zenith, the television manufactuere, will show a television featuring a Telecruz chip which will enable ITV services such as email, chat, Web surfing and so on. The ISP in the deal is Transcast which will offer 56K dial up service for free to those consumers. What's interesting about this deployment (actually expected in the 2nd Quarter in July) is that these 27" $600 TVs will proivde intertactive services for free outside the cable company's set-top box platform and monthly service business model. Although it's true that WebTV and AOLTV offer an appliance, both of thse companies ahve deep ties to cable companies and plan to launch their platform services in concert with MSOs. Will TeleCruz be able to keep up or surpass developments and customers alongside digital set-top box driven deployments that receive flash downloads of the latest middleware? It may or may not be necessary to do so. While speaking to representaives from the company, they did say that at CES, the copmany plans to announce another important TV manufacturing partner that bases its headquarters in Japan.
