Rovi Promotes Thomas Carson to CEO

Top interactive program guide distributor Rovi Corp. promoted Thomas Carson to CEO. Carson, who had been executive VP of worldwide sales and marketing, succeeds Fred Amroroso, who had run the company since 2005. 

Carson is a veteran of Gemstar-TV Guide International, which Rovi, then known as Macrovision, acquired in 2008. Carson was president of Gemstar's North American IPG business and president of its North American CE business. Rovi said Carson has also been elected to its board of directors. 

Carson's challenge at Rovi will be to grow revenue by distributing IPGs and advertising across multiple devices and platforms, including cable set-tops, connected TVs and mobile phones and tablets. “This is a market undergoing great transformation, which has exposed multiple opportunities. I look forward to taking on this new role, and moving the company forward," Carson said in Thursday's announcement.
