  • The Wall Street Journal is expanding distribution for its WSJ Live interactive video service to over-the-top video set-tops from Apple TV, Google TV and Roku. • Time Warner Cable said it hopes to launch an app for devices that use Google's Android platform by the end of November. The cable MSO, which launched an app for Apple's iPad in March, said it will enable live streaming to Android devices with the app. It will also contain an interactive program guide capable of searching seven days of TV listings, and it will allow digital cable subscribers to set remote DVR recordings and use Android mobile devices as a remote control.
  • Bright House Networks launched an app for Apple's iPad that is similar to the app that Time Warner Cable launched in March. The app allows subscribers to watch live video on the iPad when they are within range of a WiFi router connected to a cable set-top, and use the device to search TV listings and set remote DVR recordings.
  • Panasonic is making it easier for viewers to access Facebook and Twitter through its Viera HDTVs. The company launched an Internet Social Network application, along with a gaming application from PlayJam. It also launched BigFlix, video channel dedicated to Bollywood content.
  • TiVo named Capitol Hill veteran Steve Wymer director of corporate communications. Wymer has been a senior advisor and communications for three U.S. senators, most recently working as communications director for Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.). Wymer, who will be based in TiVo's Aliviso, Calif. headquarters, will lead external and internal communications efforts for the company.
