DISH Network to Offer "The Resident" on VOD on the Same Day as the Movie's Theatrical Release
--DirecTV Offers "Waiting for Superman" on VOD Day-and-Date with Movie's DVD Release
Satellite-TV provider, DISH Network, said Tuesday that it will offer the new Hillary Swank movie, "The Resident," on its DISH Cinema VOD service the same day (February 18th) as the movie premieres in theaters. The movie will be available on the service through February 21st, with the HD version priced at $5.99 and the SD version at $4.99. "DISH Cinema offers our customers the hottest Hollywood hits, and we're thrilled to deliver 'The Resident' in HD on the same day it's available in theaters," Dave Shull, DISH Network's SVP of programming, said in a prepared statement. "DISH Network is committed to giving our customers the best in-home movie experience. Not only do we offer movies simultaneously with the theatrical release, but also we give our customers access to a huge library of movies available 28 days before Netflix and Redbox, as well as on the same day or prior to DVD release."
In related news: Rival DirecTV began offering the documentary, "Waiting for Superman," on its DirecTV Cinema VOD platform, on Tuesday, February 15th--the same day as the film's DVD release. The SD version is priced at $4.99 and the HD version at $5.99.
