USA Today Taps metaio to Enhance its Super Bowl Coverage with Augmented Reality Experiences
USA Today has tapped Munich-based augmented reality (AR) specialist, metaio, to enhance its Super Bowl coverage with two interactive AR experiences that allow readers to use their smartphone to experience enhanced 3D visuals and audio.
According to the newspaper, today's (Friday, February 4th) edition will "include" a 360 degree tour of this year's Super Bowl venue, the Dallas Cowboys stadium, together with an introduction by stadium and Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, and interior and exterior highlights. Then Monday's (February 7th) edition will contain an image that triggers a 3D view of the key play of the game in an animated sequence, as well as an option to receive player stats.
In order to access the AR experiences, readers will have to download metaio's free junaio AR browser from the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace; and search within the app for the "USATODAY 360 Stadium Tour" channel. To access Monday's experience, they will also have to point their smartphone at the trigger image. A demo video is embedded above.
