Edgeware, a Stockholm-based provider of VOD server systems, contacted [itvt] Tuesday to let us know that it has been selected by European telecommunications provider, KPN, to deploy its video delivery architecture and products as part of a solution that is being provided by Nokia Siemens Network (NSN).
According to the company, it has been tapped by NSN as a key element of the latter's on-demand TV and video offering, including its Ubiquity Multiscreen TV solution. Using that solution, Edgeware says, NSN will replace KPN's existing platforms with the Edgeware Orbit 2-X and WebTV servers. Among other things, the Orbit video server platform features the ability to record live TV channels, which Edgeware says will allow KPN to use its IPTV infrastructure to offer its subscribers "advanced on-demand services, as well as support for advanced linear-TV functions." Said Edgeware CEO, Joachim Roos: "KPN has clearly taken the lead in providing innovative and exciting services to the Netherlands. Edgeware's success with KPN is a direct result of the cooperation with one of our strategic global OEM partners to enable advanced on-demand TV services."
