--Taps Freeview Australia Veteran to Lead New Unit
Strategy & Technology, a UK-based provider of interactive TV playout systems and middleware, said last week that it is setting up a dedicated Hybrid Systems business unit.
The new unit will be headed up by Matt Whitfield, who joins S&T following a stint at Freeview Australia, where he most recently served as technical director of phase 2 (MHEG-5 Platform EPG) of the national free-to-air digital TV platform. He will have the title, general manager of applications and hybrid systems. S&T has, of course, been closely involved in Freeview Australia's deployment of interactive TV technology (see, for example, the article published on itvt.com, July 5th). "Our experience working with Whitfield on this complex project was first rate," S&T managing director, David Cutts, said in a prepared statement. "When he returned to London he was the obvious choice for this role and I am delighted to have him on board to further our success in the deployment of MHEG in connected TV." Added Whitfield: "[S&T's new Hybrid Systems] business will provide solutions to support new and existing MHEG interactive TV standard users worldwide, including the creation, maintenance and enhancement of interactive applications for EPG's, video-on-demand, and digital teletext, using MHEG, MHEG-IC, CI+ and HbbTV platforms."
