--Report: Indie Filmmakers Increasingly Embracing VOD
Time Warner Cable on Tuesday began offering three high-profile 3D movies--"Shrek Forever After," "Despicable Me" and "Alpha & Omega"--on its VOD platform.
Priced at $4.99, the 3D versions of the movies are available in the HD Movies On Demand section of the platform, alongside 2D HD versions. In addition, SD versions are available in the Movies On Demand section.
In related news: According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, independent filmmakers are increasingly embracing VOD, in order to make up for declining revenue from theatrical releases and DVD. The Journal also reported that Starz--a 25% stake in which was acquired last week by Weinstein Co.--is "exploring releasing...independent movies exclusively on VOD systems and not in theaters or on DVD."
