Broadcast network, ABC, is offering supplemental broadband video and a social TV experience on its Web site, to complement the eleventh season of the reality show, "Dancing with the Stars." In addition to viewing full episodes of the show through the ABC.com Full Episode Player, "Dancing with the Stars" fans can:
- For the first time interact with one another in "Dancing Live Chat Parties" during broadcasts of the show. The virtual viewing parties debuted during Monday's broadcast and are slated to continue throughout the season. They kick off at 5:00PM Pacific in conjunction with the show's East Coast feed and continue through 10:00PM Pacific.
- View a behind-the-scenes special entitled "Backstage at Dancing with the Stars!" The special, which is now in its third season and which is hosted by season-five alumna, Sabrina Bryan, will be made available weekly on Wednesday mornings, following Tuesday night's "Dancing with the Stars--the Results Show." Viewers will be able to access it on ABC.com, as well as Hulu, YouTube and ABC Mobile. In addition, ABC says, an extended version of the special will be available exclusively on AT&T mobile devices.
As always, interactivity is a key element of the show: viewers can cast their votes for their favorite teams via phone during the show's broadcast and for up to 30 minutes after the broadcast's conclusion. They can also vote at ABC.com from the beginning of each episode on the East Coast through 8:00AM Pacific the next day. And, if they are AT&T Wireless customers, they can vote via SMS by texting "VOTE" to a shortcode that corresponds with the team they want to support.
