Charter Communications announced last week that it has launched PBS Kids Sprout--a multiplatform programming service which is a joint venture between PBS, Comcast, HIT Entertainment and Sesame Workshop and which targets children aged 2-5--on its VOD platform. The MSO also says it plans to make the service's 24-hour linear channel available on a market-by-market basis by the end of the year.
PBS Kids Sprout claims to offer 65 hours of VOD programming each month, including 15 hours of Spanish-language programming. Shows carried by the service include "Sesame Street," "Bob the Builder," "Barney & Friends" and "The Wiggles." Charter claims to offer over 6,500 VOD choices, including movies, children's and family programming, cable TV shows, special interest programs, documentaries and full-length previews of movies now playing or coming soon to local theaters.
