Broadband video and home connectivity solutions provider, Entone (note: the company recently announced a deal with OTT specialist, Vudu, to enable hybrid TV for telco operators--see the article published on itvt.com, March 19th), said Tuesday that it has hired Ameer Karim to lead its hybrid TV initiatives in the Americas. He will hold the title, VP of hybrid TV, Americas.
According to the company, Karim has over 17 years of retail channel and product management experience, as well as extensive technical background in broadband video and consumer electronics. He was previously at HP, where Entone says he held numerous management positions. According to the company, he was instrumental in helping grow HP's Consumer Desktop PC business from its early days into a $6 billion business, and led the launch of a strong portfolio of consumer PC and digital entertainment products. Most recently, Entone says, he led HP's Futures & Innovations group, which was responsible for strategizing and incubating new business models and products for commercial and retail sectors within HP's Desktop PC business. Prior to his stint at HP, Karim held various management positions at Best Buy.
According to Entone, Karim is the latest in a series of significant hires that it has made this year to support its growth. The company says that the appointment of a VP to specifically oversee its hybrid TV solutions demonstrates its "major focus on creating innovative ways for service operators to marry the best of broadcast television with the latest generation of IP-based media services such as online movie libraries, personal media sharing, place-shifting, and social media." "This appointment is part of Entone's focus on leading the industry in hybrid TV solutions," Entone CEO, Steve McKay, said in a prepared statement. "We specifically targeted an industry veteran with deep experience in consumer marketing and digital media. Ameer brings great depth of experience and enthusiastic leadership that will complement the Entone team. He is also a valuable addition to the technology and operator communities in which we actively participate."
Presumably because Karim is more interested in generating new business for Entone than concerned about being overwhelmed by spam, Entone's press release announcing his appointment included his email address: ameer.karim@entone.com.
