Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) said Tuesday that programming from premium cable network, HBO, is now available for purchase (for between $0.99 and $2.99 per episode) in the US on its PlayStation3 (PS3) and PlayStation Portable (PSP) consoles via its PlayStation Network video delivery service. The Sony consoles are the first such devices to offer HBO's programming.
The HBO programming, which will be available to PS3 and PSP owners at the same time as it becomes available on DVD, is located in a dedicated section of the PlayStation Store (TV Shows > Networks > HBO). HBO shows currently available in the store (note: Sony says that more titles and seasons will be added each week) include: the first two seasons of "True Blood," the first three seasons of "Big Love," the first two seasons of "Entourage," the first season of "Eastbound and Down," and multiple seasons of such shows as "The Sopranos," "Sex and the City," "The Wire," "Rome," "Da Ali G Show," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," and "Flight of the Conchords." "The HBO library of premium original content is a perfect example of how PS3 has become the most content-rich entertainment platform in the living room," Peter Dille, SCEA's SVP of marketing and PlayStation Network, said in a prepared statement. "When you combine the iconic programming from HBO with the existing TV, film, live sports and original programming available on PlayStation Network, our customers have access to the content they want, when they want it, at home or on the go with the PSP."
