thePlatform Says It Has Launched the First Commercially Available, Ad-Supported, HTML5 Video PDK

Comcast-owned broadband video platform provider, thePlatform, contacted [itvt] Wednesday to let us know that it has launched what it bills as "the first commercially available, ad-supported video player development kit (PDK) with HTML5 support from a major online video publisher." The company has also published a detailed technical white paper, which it says outlines a variety of issues and considerations that need to be taken into account when designing HTML5 video solutions.

According to thePlatform, the new HTML5-supporting PDK builds upon the company's announcement in February that it was the first to support an iPad publishing profile--within its new mpx Beta video management system--just days after the specs for publishing video on the iPad were announced. A spokesperson from thePlatform stressed to [itvt] that the PDK "is actually available today," adding that "while other companies may have announced their intentions to deliver a similar solution in the near future, thePlatform's customers can download the newest PDK...right now from their Technical Resource Center Web site."
