The [itvt] editorial team is on the road this week, so we are covering most stories in round-up/summary form, and we anticipate that there will be some additional interruptions of our regular news publishing schedule beyond that. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience to our readers.
- Warner Bros. has launched a new subscription VOD service, dubbed WarnerFilms, on the Microsoft Mediaroom-powered hybrid DTT/IPTV platform, BT Vision. According to the company, the service will provide access to 28 movies each month, with seven new titles added each week.
- Content security specialist, Widevine, has announced that it has been tapped by DISH Network to provide adaptive streaming, virtual DVD-like "trick-play" functionality and DRM for the satellite TV provider's planned "TV Everywhere" service. According to the company, its video optimization and DRM platform will "ensure that DISH Network customers viewing their live and on demand shows throughout the home with TV Everywhere receive the highest-quality entertainment, while at the same time ensuring that DISH Network programming is securely delivered wirelessly to any device anywhere in the home." Multichannel News's Todd Spangler has more on DISH Network's TV Everywhere plans.
- YouTube has reversed a decision it made last fall and is now allowing Syabas to provide access to its video on its Popbox and Popcorn Hour OTT set-top boxes, according to an article by Peter Kafka in All Things Digital.
- Interactive TV software developer, Zodiac Interactive, has announced that Cisco has joined its Zodiac Partner Program in support of cable operator tru2way deployments. As part of its involvement in the program, Cisco has licensed Zodiac's PowerUp for tru2way and PowerUp Monitor Server application to test with select tru2way set-tops. Zodiac bills PowerUp as a "cross-platform software middleware and presentation engine solution that enables advanced iTV/ETV application deployments across multiple set-tops, including legacy boxes," and bills its PowerUp Monitor Server and Monitor App as "provid[ing] all necessary functionality for life cycle management with proven scalability and un-paralleled performance."
