--Tribeca Film Festival Launches CMC-Powered VOD and KIT Digital-Powered Online Video Services --Comcast Launches "Independent Movie Club" on Fancast.com --Starz Offering Sneak Previews of "Gravity" on Free VOD, Online --Verizon Revamps its My Verizon Portal
Here is a round-up of some other recent interactive TV-related stories that we didn't have room for in this issue:
The Tribeca Film Festival has tapped KIT Digital to power Tribeca Film Festival Virtual (TFF Virtual), which it describes as "a virtual and interactive movie experience featuring high-definition premium video content and live streaming coverage from the 2010 Festival." The free service will provide live streaming video coverage of select red carpet events, the event's opening press conference, and its April 29th awards show, as well as short films from past festivals, celebrity interviews and more. Users will also be able to purchase $45 premium passes, which will provide them with access to eight feature films and 18 shorts, all of which are offered in HD and all of which will be premiering at the festival this year. In addition, KIT Digital says, "TFF Virtual Premium Pass holders will have the opportunity to join live conversations with other film aficionados, as well as participate in real-time Q&A panels with filmmakers and industry insiders." The festival has also tapped Comcast Media Center to help manage and distribute VOD delivery for a new Tribeca Film VOD offering, which will make 12 features from the festival (seven of which will be available day-and-date with their premiere) available on Comcast, Cablevision, Verizon FiOS and other pay-TV VOD platforms.
- Meanwhile, Comcast has announced the launch of an "Independent Movie Club" on its Fancast Xfinity Web site (http://www.fancast.com/indies), which it says will offer news, interviews and photos from the Tribeca Film Festival, along with hundreds of independent films, live chats and newsletters.
- Starz has announced plans to offer two free "sneak preview" episodes of its new series, "Gravity," on various VOD and online platforms, as well as to offer the show's premiere episode free of charge on various EST platforms. It is following a similar promotional strategy for the second season of the show, "Party Down" (see the article published on itvt.com, April 20th).
- Verizon has revamped its My Verizon portal, which offers a range of programming services, remote DVR management, VOD bookmarking and more.
