--iPad Version to Launch Before 2010 World Cup
Univision Interactive Media, the digital division of US Spanish-language broadcaster, Univision, announced Wednesday that it has launched a free, video-enabled soccer application, called Univision Futbol, in the Apple App Store. According to the company, the app, which was developed in partnership with July Systems, is currently available for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch, and a version that has been optimized for the new Apple iPad will be available in time for the upcoming soccer World Cup. Univision says that the app will provide "non stop access to tournaments and leagues from around the world" and will also offer the broadcaster's World Cup coverage.
According to Univision, the new app offers the latest World Cup video, news and photos, as well as detailed stats and game results. Users can also access customized coverage of their favorite teams via a "Mi Futbol" personalization tool, the company says, and receive minute-by-minute alerts on games and goals. In addition, they can interact with other users via comments and can share photos. Soccer leagues and tournaments slated to be covered by the app throughout the year include the Brasileirao, the Bundesliga, the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Sudamericana, the English Premier League, Italy's Serie A, the Mexican Soccer League, Spain's La Liga, and the UEFA Champions League.
