--Board Chaired by Jim Garrity, Members Include Jinni's Mike Pohl, GE's Beth Comstock
Canoe Ventures, the company tasked with implementing the US cable industry's plans for interactive and addressable advertising (note: its backers are Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Cablevision and Bright House), announced Monday that it has formed an advisory board made up of industry leaders with expertise in a range of businesses relevant to its mission to "make television a preeminent digital marketing medium." "To build this board, and ultimately achieve our vision, we reached out to a select group of extraordinary people who represent a depth and breadth of knowledge across a range of disciplines," Canoe CEO, David Verklin, said in a prepared statement. "As Canoe leverages the combined resources of our founding partners to introduce and scale cable's advanced advertising solutions, we look forward to the board's insights to help drive development of products and services that will accelerate the evolution of television."
Chairing the new Canoe Ventures Advisory Board is Jim Garrity, founder and CEO of marketing consultancy, Bellwether Digital Bridge. According to Canoe, he has held sales and marketing leadership positions at a number of Fortune 50 companies, including IBM, Compaq and First Union (which subsequently became Wachovia). He retired from Wachovia in 2007, after serving 10 years as its chief marketing officer. He also served on the board of directors for the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) from 1995 to 2007, and as chairman from 1998. During his tenure, he founded the organization's Digital Marketing Committee. In addition, from 1996 to 2007, he served as a director of the Ad Council.
The other members of the new advisory board are:
- Vicki Lins (vice chairman), Canoe Ventures' own chief marketing officer.
- Wendy Clark, SVP of integrated marketing, communications and capabilities at the Coca-Cola Company.
- Beth Comstock, SVP and chief marketing officer at GE.
- David Droga, founder and creative chairman of Droga5.
- Mark Kvamme, a partner at Sequoia Capital.
- Bob Liodice, president and CEO of the ANA.
- Wes Nichols, co-founder and CEO of MarketShare Partners.
