Yesterday (see the article published on itvt.com, April 6th), [itvt] reported on how Oxygen Media--the company behind Oxygen, a US cable channel that targets a female demographic--is adding social TV elements to the latest season of its "Tori & Dean" reality TV franchise via OxygenLive, an online destination that is designed to add a two-screen social/interactive TV component to the channel's programming. (Note: OxygenLive.com--which launched last December--allows viewers to chat live, post comments to Facebook and Twitter, take part in polls, and read other fans' posts and tweets during the channel's shows, with the live chats being hosted by Oxygen editors, guest bloggers and the shows' stars. The service now also supports live video. Oxygen credits the service, which launched in association with the show, "Bad Girls Club," with helping make that show its most successful ever.)
Now, the channel--which has previously stated that it plans to incorporate a social TV element into all its original programming "52 weeks a year"--has announced that it is "taking the OxygenLive strategy analog," by which it means that it plans to "aggregate viewer tweets, status updates and comments and insert them live into the programming. " This, it says, will allow viewers "to be a part of the show, interact with the program, talent, each other and all at the same time."
According to Oxygen, OxygenLive.com has received more than 14 million page views and over 264,000 unique visitors since its launch.
