Widevine DRM and Video Optimization Tech Incorporated into Metrological's Mediaconnect TV

DRM and video optimization solutions provider, Widevine, said Monday that its adaptive streaming, virtual DVD/Blu-ray features and DRM technologies are being integrated with Metrological Media's Metroconnect operating system for use on Metrological's new hybrid/OTT device, Mediaconnect TV, in order to ensure that "subscribers enjoy highest-quality, over-the-top video content" on the device.

Metrological bills its software platform as enabling operators to extend OTT media entertainment services to their subscribers, and bills Mediaconnect TV as a hybrid, two-way media device that "considerably enhances the consumer's TV experience." According to the company, viewers equipped with the device can, while watching conventional television, simultaneously access a broad range of Web-based multimedia applications. Powered by the Metroconnect OS and Widevine's DRM and video optimization platform, the company says, Mediaconnect TV combines cable, satellite and terrestrial services with IPTV and Internet TV to "ensure subscribers have the highest quality experience available on content delivered over the Internet." "Metrological has created a software platform that combines all of the features of interactive television into one convenient location," Metrological co-founder and CTO, Albert Dahan, said in a prepared statement. "By including Widevine's video optimization and multiplatform DRM capabilities, users of the Mediaconnect TV will be able to experience the best of interactive television."

Widevine, which claims that its platform is used by major Internet content services and large cable, satellite and telecommunications companies launching "TV Everywhere" strategies, bills its software platform as optimizing the entertainment experience for content delivered over any network to any device. It says that the solution is natively supported in nearly all major brands and types of network-connected consumer electronics devices, including TV's, Blu-ray players, mobile devices and gaming systems.
