iN Demand to Offer Movies-on-Demand Category Dedicated to Black History Month

Cable industry-owned VOD content aggregator, iN Demand, announced Wednesday that on February 1st it will launch a new movies-on-demand category, designed to celebrate Black History Month. Dubbed Black Cinema On Demand, the category will offer films featuring African-American directors, actors and themes.

According to iN Demand, the new category will offer such movies as Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" and "Malcolm X"; Steven Spielberg's "The Color Purple" and "Amistad"; Edward Zwick's "Blood Diamond"; Denzel Washington's "Antwone Fisher"; and Taylor Hackford's Ray Charles biopic, "Ray." African-American actors featured in the movies include Angela Bassett, Morgan Freeman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington, Whoopi Goldberg, and Chris Rock; and the category will also feature documentaries devoted to two major African-American sports stars: Muhammed Ali and LeBron James.

The new category will be available on Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Bright House, Bresnan and RCN, iN Demand says, and its titles will be priced between $1.95 and $4.99.
