--MSO Is In Process of Rolling Out the Guideworks-Developed EPG on its Motorola Systems
Comcast has produced a demo video (embedded above), launched an informational Web site, and published a user guide for the A28 i-Guide, an EPG which was developed by GuideWorks, its joint venture with Rovi (formerly Macrovision), and which it has reportedly been in the process of rolling out on Motorola set-top boxes since September (see the article published on itvt.com, September 7th).
New features offered by the A28 i-Guide--which is currently available in parts of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and State College, Pennsylvania, and in Chattanooga, TN--include myDVR Manager, which allows users to remotely schedule recordings on one or more DVR's from the Web (a feature already offered by rivals DirecTV, Verizon and AT&T) via a dedicated Web page, comcast.net/mydvr; the ability to fast-forward and rewind DVR recordings in five-minute increments; a button that lets viewers switch to an HD version (if available) of the SD channel they are currently watching; DVR folders that automatically group shows together; the ability to delete groups of recordings; universal caller ID; the ability to automatically schedule recordings of relevant programs by entering an actor's or director's name or keywords; and three interactive TV applications: HSN's Shop-by-Remote, Ready Remind/Ready Record (allows viewers to set programming reminders and recordings directly from ads for movies and TV shows), and RFI (allows viewers to request info and coupons from advertisers).
