The National Basketball Association's (NBA) NBA Digital arm (note: NBA Digital is comprised of a portfolio of digital assets, jointly managed by the NBA and Turner Sports) contacted [itvt] Wednesday to let us know that it has experienced "significant growth" across all platforms so far this season.
According to NBA Digital:
- NBA TV is now available in 45 million homes, and viewer engagement with the network across all platforms has risen dramatically. For example, NBA Digital says, Fan Night voting on NBA.com--which allows viewers to decide which game will be covered on NBA TV on Tuesday nights--has increased 239%, with over 100,000 viewers taking part each week.
- Since opening night, NBA.com has generated a record of nearly 215 million video streams, up 50% from the same period last season (note: NBA Digital says that the site's video content is being accessed by fans from around the world).
- During 2009, more than 100 new NBA Digital mobile applications have been launched in the Apple App Store, the Android Market and the BlackBerry App World, with NBA League Pass Mobile having been selected by Apple as one the top apps of 2009 in iTunes Rewind.
"These strong early results across every phase of our business are a reflection of our industry leadership in cross-platform content generation and distribution," NBA Digital SVP and general manager, Bryan Perez, said in a prepared statement. "By managing our TV, online and mobile efforts as a single entity with a common purpose, we're giving fans the best of the NBA, when, where and how they want it."
