MTV, 20th Century Fox to Host Interactive Live Streaming "Avatar" Event, Featuring James Cameron

MTV Networks and Twentieth Century Fox have announced plans for an interactive/social live-streaming event designed to promote the new James Cameron movie, "Avatar" (note: an Adobe AIR-based, clickable, interactive video trailer for "Avatar" was launched last week--see the article published on itvt.com, November 30th). The event, dubbed "Avatar Live" and sponsored by LG Mobile Phones, will stream in HD simultaneously on MTV..com and Facebook on December 3rd at 3:00PM Eastern/12:00PM Pacific, and will be followed by a "Behind the Screen" episode devoted to "Avatar" that will also air in December.

According to MTV and Fox, the event, which is being produced by MTV News, will present exclusive footage from "Avatar" and will allow fans to engage live with Cameron and two of the movie's stars, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. It will be moderated by MTV News's Josh Horowitz, and will feature questions submitted in real time from the MTV.com and Facebook audience (note: fans can also upload their questions via Facebook in advance of the event). The event will be archived through the official "Avatar" Facebook page (facebook.com/officialavatarmovie) and through movies.mtv.com. "We are thrilled to launch this unique partnership with Twentieth Century Fox and bring exclusive 'Avatar' programming to the MTV audience in new and exciting ways," John Shea, EVP of integrated marketing and branded content for MTV Networks' Music and Logo Group, said in a prepared statement. "Additionally, mashing the dynamic reporting of the MTV News team together with the Facebook platform allows us to connect fans directly to the film's talent in a first-of-its-kind live event and one we hope to replicate with future films."
