Livestation, which streams live news from a range of international sources via browser and desktop player solutions, on Monday announced the launch of version 3.0 of its desktop software. New features, according to the company, include:
- The ability to use Livestation as a native Twitter client, making it possible to follow one's friends and post tweets directly under the video window without having to switch applications. "More interestingly," Livestream CEO, Matteo Berlucchi, wrote in an email to [itvt], "you can screen grab what you are watching with a handy button and have the screenshot posted with your Twitter update in one easy click."

- A "Multiview" option: "As our player is to all extents a multi-protocol and cross-platform video player, we thought it would be quite cool to be able to watch more than one channel at once," Berlucchi wrote. "So, with Livestation 3.0 you can now do that by simply clicking on the + icon available next to each channel."
- A new £14.99 "Pro" version that is advertising-free, offers unlimited multiview, and delivers all partner channels via a dedicated, high-performance data network.
- Subscription-based premium channels: according to Berlucchi, the channels are delivered in three different quality levels--"low or 'Internet cafe' mode, medium for everyday watching, and high for standard-definition and plasma viewing"--and will shortly also offer adaptive bitrate support. The first company to offer a premium channel on Livestation is Al Jazeera English.
According to Berlucchi, the release of Livestation 3.0 is the culmination of "eight months of hard work."
