Oxygen Media--the company behind Oxygen, a US cable channel that targets a female demographic--on Monday announced the pending launch of a Web site, called OxygenLive (http://www.OxygenLive.com), which it says will add a two-screen social/interactive TV component to every one of its original series. "Fans no longer have to wait until the next morning to chat around the water cooler about the latest show gossip," the company says in its promotional materials for the new site. "Instead, OxygenLive is the first two-screen experience in which fans can socialize, interact and react in real time through a live chat, Facebook and Twitter (#badgirlsclub) all in one place while the show airs."
OxygenLive is scheduled to launch with the December 1st (10:00PM Eastern) season-four premiere of the Bunim/Murray reality series, "Bad Girls Club." According to Oxygen Media, viewers will be able to participate in a live chat hosted by Oxygen editors, that will feature special guests from the celebrity gossip site, EvilBeetGossip.com, and, throughout the season, various new cast members. In addition to live chat and Facebook and Twitter conversations, viewers will be able to participate in real-time polls about what is going on in the show, the company says. Oxygen Live "Bad Girls Club Edition," as the show's two-screen experience is called, is slated to take place every Tuesday at 10:00PM in association with new episode premieres. "Today's young female audience wants to chat, text, IM, and tweet about their favorite shows while they watch them live," Oxygen general manager, Jason Klarman, said in a prepared statement. "OxygenLive re-imagines TV as a social, interactive experience that allows viewers to connect with the shows and the characters they love...and each other." Added Jennifer Kavanagh, Oxygen's VP of digital and new media: "We wanted to create a socially charged viewing party that connected fans, talent and the bloggers we love around the 'Bad Girls Club' every week. There are so many fun, drama-filled moments that are tweeted about and posted on Facebook, why not pull it all together and host it live?"
