--Brightcove Launches "Developer TV"
Comcast-owned white-label video management company, thePlatform, has launched a service intended to make it easier for its customers to deliver video content to the Apple iPhone. "As you may know, delivering mobile content sometimes requires specialized development resources," the company wrote on its blog, Wednesday. "And if you're developing a custom application for the iPhone, going through the Apple App Store approval process can add extra work. thePlatform wanted to make the mobile development process easier by providing something that our customers could use to get their feet wet delivering mobile content without having to build a traditional iPhone custom application themselves."
The company says that it has used its Feeds Service, "a little JavaScript" and the iPhone's built-in Web browser to create a sample Web application that it promises will save its customers time and effort. "Customers can use the sample code (provided by thePlatform) combined with the iPhone's user interface Framework (iUI) to deliver a clean and customizable viewing experience," thePlatform states on its blog. According to the company, interested parties can now download a package from its Technical Resource Center that contains:
- Two separate examples to get them started on building their own app. Each example uses custom JavaScript that interacts with thePlatform's Feeds Services' JSON interface and the iUI library, the company says.
- A browser-based sample Web app. Since the app is Web-based, the company says, "your customers do not need to download anything in order to make it work on their iPhones."
- An iPhone-like user experience that is based on the native iPhone app look-and-feel. The company says that the user experience can be further customized by changing the CSS for different colors and background images.
- A template iPhone transcoding profile. The media files will be formatted and encoded specifically for iPhone viewing, the company says.
Interested parties can see a working demo by typing the following URL into their iPhone browser: http://theplatform.com/iphone/index.html#_home
