Rovi (formerly Macrovision--for more on the company's name change and the repositioning it heralds, see the interview with Rovi chief evangelist, Richard Bullwinkle, that was published on itvt.com, July 16th) and industry analyst firm, The Diffusion Group (TDG), are organizing a free, two-part Webinar series on the emerging over-the-top (OTT) video space.
The first part of the Webinar, entitled "The Scoop on OTT: Prices, Devices and Market Slices," will be presented today (Wednesday, October 21st, at 2:00PM Eastern/11:00AM Pacific) by Michael Greeson, TDG's principal analyst, and David Jordan, Rovi's VP of marketing. It is expected to last around 45 minutes. "The growth of over-the-top TV services is inevitable, yet the competitive threat posed by OTT video services is not widely recognized," Rovi and TDG state in their promotional materials for the Webinar. "It is imperative for companies in the home video value chain--whether focused on hardware, services, or content--to understand the market. Through TDG's research, you'll gain insight into the growing consumer demand for alternative, over-the-top TV services and market dynamics. According to the companies, participants will receive an exclusive copy of a TDG research brief that outlines key OTT segments and explores the different motivations that distinguish "replacers" (i.e. "cord-cutters"--consumers who see OTT as a replacement for their pay-TV service) from "supplementers" (i.e. consumers who see OTT as complementary to their pay-TV service).
