Move Networks--a Utah-based company which offers patent-pending adaptive-bitrate technologies for delivering live and on-demand, HD-quality, buffering-free broadband video (its technologies are used by, among others, ABC, CWI, Discovery Communications, ESPN, Fox, Sky News, Televisa and Warner Bros.; and are also being used for Comcast's On Demand Online trial), and which earlier this year entered the IPTV space by acquiring UK-based Inuk Networks (see article published on itvt.com, April 22nd)--said Monday that it has named Guy Beverlin EVP of operations. According to the company, Beverlin has extensive experience in designing and building "world class operations centers of excellence" and will be tasked with leading the continued build-out of its network and operations capabilities. "We are thrilled to have Guy join Move," Move Networks' recently appointed president and CEO, Roxanne Austin, said in a prepared statement. "Guy's experience and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to build the world-class operations that will support our expansion into delivering live, multichannel television over the Internet. I look forward to working closely with him as we execute on our growth strategy and move our operating practices to the next level."
According to Move, Beverlin has over 15 years of experience directing large, technologically complex broadcast and entertainment platforms. Most recently, he served as assistant VP of operations for AT&T's U-verse, with responsibility for bringing multichannel IP-based video operations to the company. He operated all aspects of the IPTV service's content delivery system, Move says, including video content acquisition, commercial insertion, its IPTV platform, and core network and hub offices across the US. Prior to working at AT&T, he served as VP and general manager of DirecTV's Los Angeles Broadcast Center. According to Move, he played an instrumental role in DirecTV's growth from 30 to over 700 channels and its launch of interactive TV, HD and international services. He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a BS in physical science from Central Michigan University. He is also a member of the SMPTE.
Last month, Move Networks announced its first IPTV deal: with Cable & Wireless-subsidiary, CWI--see the article published on itvt.com, September 13th.
