--Says It Has No "Immediate Plans" to Bring Similar Team-Specific Apps to Other Markets or Games
AT&T is providing Dallas and Fort Worth-area customers of its Microsoft Mediaroom-powered IPTV service, U-verse TV, with a "Dallas Mavericks Multiview" interactive TV application intended to enhance their viewing of Dallas Mavericks basketball games. The application is a team-specific implementation of the new AT&T U-verse TV Multiview application format that was profiled in an article published on itvt.com, September 14th (note: an example of AT&T U-verse TV's new Sports Multiview application, which has been rolled out nationally, can be seen below).
According to a note from the company to local customers, the app, which is being offered on a trial basis on channel 780 in association with the Mavericks' October 11th and 15th pre-season games, "lets you control how you watch the game with four Mavs channels on your TV screen at once and the ability to choose your camera angle." Its four-screen mosaic features the regular broadcast feed of the Mavericks game, two alternate camera angles and a screen with extra Mavs content, and allows viewers to choose which screen should be the main one. "The trial is only available for U-verse TV customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area," the note concludes. "We don't have any immediate plans to bring this feature to other U-verse markets or games, but it's an example of how we're always working to develop and bring you new and exciting features."
