--Enhancements Include Original Animated Webisodes, Interactive Video Game on YouTube
Premium programmer, Showtime Networks, has launched a range of multiplatform and interactive enhancements for its original series, "Dexter" (centers on a serial killer with a strict moral code, played by Michael C. Hall, who delivers vigilante justice). The enhancements include:
- A 12-part animated Web series, entitled "Dexter: Early Cuts," which is slated to launch on Showtime's Web site (sho.com) and on VOD platforms on October 25th, and which is intended to show fans "how Dexter's killing techniques evolved, from haphazard to the calculated methods seen on the show." According to Showtime, the Web series, which was written by "Dexter" producer and writer, Lauren Gussis, will follow the show's eponymous hero as he
dispatches three unsavory characters, and will also "provide fans with fun and interesting facts about Dexter, including how he bought his boat, the Slice of Life, and when he began collecting slides of his victims." Each of its Webisodes will be brought to life by a different illustrator (note: illustrators on board for the project include eight-time Eisner Award winner, Kyle Baker), Showtime says, and all will be driven by a voiceover from Michael C. Hall.
- A "multi-input" game which takes place across multiple platforms (including on-air, online and mobile), and which debuted late last month. Each week, the game invites viewers to solve a challenge or find a hidden clue to help reveal a never-before-seen image or video clip from a future "Dexter" episode.
- "Where's Dexter?," an interactive video game on YouTube (see video embedded above), which is based on the "Where's Waldo" format and which invites viewers to find Dexter in various locations such as a crowded city street. When viewers see the character, they can click on him to go to the game's next level--their ultimate reward being the opportunity to watch the trailer for the show's fourth season.
- The ability for viewers to "Dexterize" their Facebook pages, with such features as dripping blood and plastic wrap.
- A viral game called http://www.DextersChangeTheBaby.com, which invites viewers to upload their photo to replace the face of Dexter's new baby with their own. They can choose from a series of baby photos and share their creations via Facebook.
