Verizon announced Wednesday that it is adding more HD VOD premium programming to its FiOS TV VOD service. According to the company, FiOS TV customers who subscribe to HBO and Cinemax will soon be able to access new HBO and Cinemax HD VOD channels, each offering around 150 hours of programming--more HD VOD programming, Verizon claims, than HBO and Cinemax offer on any other operator's platform.
In addition, Verizon says, it is expanding its FiOS TV Movie Package by 1) adding HD VOD content from The Movie Channel; 2) doubling the amount of HD VOD content available from Starz; and 3) adding 150 hours of VOD movies from Encore. All the new content will be available this fall, the company says. "FiOS TV customers want the best in HD programming, especially when it comes to premium channels, and Verizon offers the most HD premium content in the industry," Tricia Lynch, Verizon's director of VOD programming, said in a prepared statement. "With more than 70 premium movie channels, more than 40 of which are in HD, the most HBO and Cinemax HD channels available, and FiOS TV's incredible picture-and-sound quality, our customers don't need to leave the comfort of their home to get a true movie-theater experience."
Verizon says that all the new HBO and Cinemax HD VOD content will be included free-of-charge for FiOS TV customers who subscribe to the two premium programming services. According to the company, those customers already get up to 300 hours of SD VOD from the services. Meanwhile, customers who subscribe to FiOS TV's Movie Package get 45 premium channels from Showtime, Starz, The Movie Channel, Encore, Flix, IFC and Sundance, the company says, including 850 hours of VOD programming.
Verizon claims that its VOD service, which is accessed by pressing the "VOD" or "On Demand" button on the remote, by using the menu on the FiOS TV Interactive Media Guide, or by selecting a specific VOD channel, offers over 15,000 titles per month, 70% of which are free, and 1,400 of which are in HD (1,100 of the service's HD titles are free, the company says).
