eventIS, the Dutch developer of VOD and linear broadcasting software that was recently acquired by US-based VOD technology provider, SeaChange International (see the article published on itvt.com, September 2nd), and Verivue, a Westford, Mass.-based provider of network-centric media platforms, announced Tuesday that they are collaborating to develop a complete solution for on-demand digital video services. The companies say they have combined eventIS's backoffice software with Verivue's Media Distribution Switch (MDX 9000) systems, in order to offer a single solution that supports cable and telco operators' advanced digital TV services.
Verivue bills its MDX 9000 series systems as the first network-centric platform with integrated solid-state storage built for the high-volume delivery of video to TV's, PC's and mobile devices; while eventIS bills its converged Service Delivery Platform (cSDP) as managing and integrating broadcast and VOD metadata, controlling on-demand network allocation, and managing VOD subscriber information for three-screen delivery. By combining the two platforms into a single system, the companies claim, they can provide a "seamless" solution that efficiently delivers on-demand video services. "EventIS' success in the European market is attributable, in part, to our open interfaces that enable television operators to take advantage of the best technology platforms," eventIS president, Erwin van Dommelen, said in a prepared statement. "Our cooperation with Verivue gives customers the benefits of our popular backoffice software, together with Verivue's media storage and distribution platform." Added Verivue CEO, Jim Dolce: "The MDX 9000 enables operators to advance new video services on all the devices that their customers are using today, while eliminating datacenter sprawl and operational inefficiencies. eventIS products are popular throughout Europe and our cooperation on this solution further extends our market opportunities."
According to Verivue, its MDX Media Distribution Switch systems provide lower operational costs than legacy VOD servers, while delivering more streams, more storage and greater control over all video applications and services. eventIS, meanwhile, bills its cSDP as a rich, flexible and scalable EPG/VOD platform that manages workflows for VOD and EPG services, user profile management, and service discovery and selection.
