--Lifetime Reveals Plans to Offer Full Episodes of "Project Runway" On-Demand on MyLifetime.com
Terra USA, a Miami-based Internet company and original digital content producer that targets a Latino demographic, and NBC Universal-owned Spanish-language broadcaster, Telemundo, are claiming success for the socially enhanced streaming coverage of the August 12th soccer World Cup qualifier match between Mexico and the US that they offered free-of-charge on the co-branded site, FutbolEstelar.tv. According to the companies, the event generated over 360,000 streams on the site, 205,000 of which were live.
The companies also say that, during the match, 2,500 users interacted with one another in over 60 chat rooms on the site; and that, after the game through the next day, users accessed 144,000 streams of match-related content. In addition, the companies say, advertisers on their coverage of the event received over 216,000 pre-rolls and over 2 million media units on game day. "In partnership with FutbolEstelar.tv, Telemundo was able to live-stream a soccer match for the first time in network history," Peter Blacker, Telemundo's EVP of digital media and emerging businesses, said in a prepared statement. "This was the most comprehensive '360' event we have brought to Telemundo audiences, and the tremendous success of the live stream demonstrates our ability to reach loyal viewers across all platforms."
In other broadband video news: Lifetime Television, the channel that poached the popular fashion-themed reality series, "Project Runway," from Bravo (note: the show's sixth season premieres on Lifetime this evening), plans to make full episodes of the show, as well as of its companion show, "Models of the Runway," available on-demand on its http://www.MyLifetime.com Web site after they air on linear TV, according to a report Wednesday in Paid Content. The ad-supported episodes will be available on the Saturday following their initial broadcast--the same time as they will be available on cable VOD systems. [itvt] believes--though has not confirmed--that they will be powered by Brightcove. According to Paid Content, episodes available online at any one time will include the most recent episode and the four that aired prior to that. Other elements of "Project Runway's" online presence on MyLifetime.com (in addition to those covered on itvt.com, July 14th) include an app called the Project Runway Buzz Room, which, according to Lifetime Digital's Dan Suratt, who was interviewed by Paid Content, will aggregate Twitter and Facebook feeds about the show, as well as commentary from show designers and models, past contestants, and various bloggers. Viewers will be able to log into the app via Facebook Connect or Twitter, both of which are integrated with the app.
