The BBC announced Wednesday that it is offering extensive coverage of the World Athletic Championships (take place in Berlin, Germany from August 15th to 23rd) through its red-button interactive TV service. According to the corporation, UK digital viewers will be able to press red to access looped re-runs of BBC Two's live coverage of the event, as well as a daily 20- to 30-minute highlights program, featuring action from the event's morning and evening sessions (note: the extent of the red-button coverage varies according to platform).
In addition, the BBC says that its BBC Sport Web site will offer between five and eight hours of live video coverage each day, as well as extensive on-demand daily highlights. The online video coverage will be geo-restricted to UK residents. The BBC's online coverage will also include a daily live text commentary that will include "blow-by-blow" updates from a commentator, texts from visitors to the site, and updates from sports journalists on location. In addition, the site will feature a blog from BBC sports journalist, Tom Fordyce, who will also send out updates via Twitter and photos via Flickr.
