Ustream Launches iPhone 3GS Recorder, Allowing Video Syndication to Five Sites

--Also Launches Media Stream Feature, Allowing Show Pages to Feature Related Video from Other Users

In a post on its corporate blog, Wednesday, live Internet broadcasting company, Ustream, announced two new offerings: the iPhone 3GS Recorder and the Media Stream.

The iPhone 3GS Recorder, which is available free-of-charge in the Apple App Store, allows users to syndicate recorded videos to Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Ustream on Facebook and Ustream.tv. Because of restrictions imposed by Apple and AT&T, it does not allow syndication of live video. The app also allows users to manage videos that they have previously posted to Ustream.tv.

The Media Stream, meanwhile, allows Ustream broadcasters to aggregate content from other Ustream broadcasters on their "show page," based on a specific topic hashtag. "For example," the company's blog post explains, "imagine you're watching a conference stream with the hashtag '#CoolConference,' and someone in the crowd just uploaded a video from their iPhone and put '#CoolConference' in the video title. That video would pop up below the player you are watching--in the Media Feed--allowing you to see an entirely different part of the conference. Each show has a hashtag associated with it--all a user needs to do to send a video to that show is include the show's hashtag in their video title (example: Teaching my dog some tricks! #doggycam). The broadcaster can edit their hashtag from the 'Your Shows' page under 'Media Stream.'" According to Ustream, a broadcaster can either accept videos from everyone, and then manually approve them for his or her show page, or pre-approve certain users, so that their videos will go straight to the Media Stream: this feature is managed from the "Your Shows" page, under "Media Stream." Ustream has added a new section directly below the player on the show page, that displays the latest videos in the Media Stream. When new videos are recorded, the company says, they will appear in the Media Stream in real time, allowing users to quickly find them.
