--Claims New Axiom on Demand Feature Guarantees "Anytime, Anyplace" Video QoS
VOD and advanced advertising technology provider, SeaChange International, on Wednesday announced the availability of a new universal session resource manager (uSRM), which it says will allow operators of managed networks to deliver the best possible video experience to consumers regardless of when they are watching or on what kind of device. The company says that the uSRM will allow operators to guarantee QoS across access, aggregation and edge networks for cable, IP and wireless delivery of video.
According to SeaChange, the new uSRM, which resides between the transport network layer and applications, provides per-session and per-subscriber QoS guarantees for large-scale single- and multi-application deployments, controlling the use of network resources on behalf of such applications as IMS, IPTV, VOD, generic data services and video-based Internet services. The company says that it also allows operators to control subscriber, service and network resource policies, based upon established business rules. It claims that locating the uSRM between the transport network and applications alleviates the need for complex functions within each application, and allows applications to share network capacity resources. "The introduction of the uSRM is part of SeaChange's overall strategy to help broadband video operators achieve the goal of premium content video anytime, anywhere through managed content delivery networks," SeaChange chief strategy officer, Yvette Kanouff, said in a prepared statement. "The promise of ubiquitous video across three screens means little unless consumers can be assured of a positive experience that will keep them engaged and coming back for more. That's where the uSRM is absolutely vital, ensuring that a consumer will enjoy the best video experience possible, whether they're in the living room in front of a flat screen, watching on their phone, or at their laptop."
The uSRM is a new feature of SeaChange's Axiom on Demand content delivery platform, which the company claims delivers billions of on-demand streams worldwide every year. The company says that the uSRM leverages fully integrated resource control management software from NetSocket--a provider of real-time vision and resource control for IP networks--that helps operators identify and resolve network issues quickly, maximize network performance, and reduce operating costs.
