--Series, Written by Hayden Black, Will Have Exclusive First Run on Dailymotion
Paris, France-based broadband video company, Dailymotion (note: the company claims that over 15,000 new videos are uploaded to its network of 18 localized sites each day), announced Tuesday that Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Uhura on the original "Star Trek," has joined the cast of "The Cabonauts," a 15-part original Web series (each episode will be 10 minutes long) that the company is launching in partnership with Evil Global Corp.
The show, which was written by Evil Global Corp.'s principal, comedian Hayden Black (who also created and starred in the broadband video comedy series, "Goodnight Burbank" and "Abigail's Teen Diary") and which is slated to debut in October, will be filmed in HD and will have an exclusive first fun on Dailymotion. It is being cast by Heroes for Hire, whose principal is Erin Gray, who starred in "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." Billed as "a music comedy sci-fi series set in a space cab," the show will, according to its creators, follow its main characters as they take passengers (many of whom will apparently be played by well known figures from the TV sci-fi world) to various intergalactic destinations. "When I read the beautifully written, comical, futuristic script for 'The Cabonauts,' I thought that whoever wrote it was crazy and I couldn't wait to be a part of it," Nichols said in a prepared statement. "I love the sheer nonsense of it--we're in a seemingly normal situation then suddenly break out in crazy song. It's such fun and so smart, with elements in it that you have not seen before on screen, and I think it can't miss." Added Hayden Black: "Getting Nichelle on board is the thrill of a lifetime. She's a gorgeously talented, brilliantly gifted actress who elevates the show to a whole new level. We think her fans from her 'Star Trek' days and beyond will love her character in 'The Cabonauts.'" (Note: The show's producers are providing regular updates on its progress via a Twitter feed--@thecabonauts--and via a dedicated Web site: cabonauts.com.)
