Two French companies, Streamezzo (offers a platform for developing "rich applications" for a range of mobile operating systems) and Atos Worldline (specializes in electronic payment and transaction technologies), announced Monday that they have collaborated on an "interactive live TV application" for the iPhone 3G. The solution was developed and is operated by Atos Worldline, using Streamezzo's application-development platform. The companies bill their partnership as "combining the power of Streamezzo's technology and of Atos Worldline's in-depth experience in the telecom market with large volume hosting capacity."
According to the companies, the solution has already been implemented by a "leading European mobile telecom provider" and is being distributed through the Apple App store. It offers "intuitive" access to live TV through its embedded video player, channel grid and EPG, the companies say, and its look-and-feel can be easily and quickly customized to meet the needs of operators and broadcasters. It can also be enhanced with such features as PVR (including live catch-up TV functionality), fast channel switching and a VOD catalog, they claim. The companies also claim that the solution can be easily adapted for other mobile platforms, including Android, BlackBerry, Java, Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile. "Mobile operators and broadcasters are looking for a fast and effective way to deliver interactive mobile TV to the iPhone," Streamezzo CEO, Olivier Avaro, said in a prepared statement. "Thanks to Streamezzo's technology, they can now offer a complete and competitive mobile TV service to their customers in less than six weeks." Added Gregoire Seneclauze, Atos Worldline's head of telecom business development: "We are very excited, as this new and innovative offer brings together Streamezzo's excellence in mobile rich media, and Atos Worldline's know-how for building and operating carrier-grade services, for a state-of-the-art and future-proof mobile TV service."
