Verizon's FiOS TV Marks July 4th Weekend with VOD Promotion

Incumbent telco Verizon's FiOS TV service marked the July 4th holiday weekend with a video-on-demand promotion (July 2nd-6th) that presented viewers with six Independence Day-related movies, located in a special folder in the VOD section of the FiOS TV Interactive Media Guide. The movies, which were priced from $2.99, were "The American President," "Apollo 13," "Independence Day," "Air Force One," "National Treasure," and "The Patriot." "Verizon FiOS TV is always looking for ways to help our customers enjoy their service, and this special collection of films is a great way for them to save a little money by celebrating the holiday from the comfort of their own home," Shawn Strickland, Verizon's VP of video solutions, said in a prepared statement. "Our video-on-demand is always a bargain compared with going to the movie theater. And with amazing picture-and-sound quality--whether in pure HD or clear standard def--you can't beat the FiOS TV experience."

Verizon claims that FiOS TV's VOD service offers over 15,000 titles per month, 70% of which are free, and 1,400 of which are in HD (around 1,000 of these HD titles are free, the company says).
