Germany's ProSieben Offering "Gossip Girl" on its Broadband Video Portal

German commercial broadcaster, ProSieben, is offering the US series, "Gossip Girl," from Warner Bros. International Television Distribution on an advertising-supported basis on its Move Networks-powered ProSieben.tv broadband video portal. The broadcaster says that this is the first US TV program to be streamed on the portal, even though it broadcasts a range of US programs on its linear TV service, including "The Tudors," "Nip/Tuck" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." Each episode of the series is uploaded to the portal immediately after its broadcast, and can be viewed for seven days (i.e. until the next episode is broadcast). In addition, ProSieben is making episodes of "Gossip Girl" available on a pay-per-view basis a week in advance of their broadcast, via Maxdome, the premium broadband video portal of its corporate parent, ProSiebenSat.1, which also offers older episodes of the show on a transactional basis.

According to ProSieben, the free, catch-up offering of "Gossip Girl" is monetized exclusively through in-video advertising: it says that its ad sales arm, SevenOne Media, has secured Johnson & Johnson and L'Oreal Paris as advertisers.
