Video-on-demand distribution services provider, TVN Entertainment (note: the company recently announced a merger with Avail Media--see article published on itvt.com, May 19th), announced Wednesday that it has signed a long-term agreement with the US's second-largest cable MSO, Time Warner Cable, that will see the latter using the TVN VOD platform in support of its VOD initiatives. Under the terms of the companies' deal, TVN will provide the MSO with VOD content delivery services and advanced asset management tools, including its flagship ADONISS asset management system. "As we strive to provide our customers with simple and easy control over the content that they watch, we are continually looking for innovative solutions to help us manage our infrastructure," Time Warner Cable CTO, Mike Lajoie, said in a prepared statement. "TVN's ADONISS interactive asset management toolset provides us with unparalleled control over our VOD assets." Added TVN's chief sales and strategy officer, Jim Riley: "Time Warner Cable has invested heavily to provide its customers with a state-of-the-art digital service and we welcome the opportunity to support their comprehensive VOD initiatives. With over 200 content partners and a rich VOD toolset, TVN is well positioned to help Time Warner Cable maximize its VOD service over the coming years."
VOD services offered by TVN, in addition to the ADONISS asset management system, include iPRI, an asset management tool that is designed to enable programmers to make real-time changes to metadata; TVNow, a rapid-turnaround service for transforming time-sensitive programming, such as sportscasts, into VOD assets; and support for multiple content formats, including SD, HD, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and broadband.
