Broadband video publishing solutions provider, Brightcove, has secured another deal to power video on a newspaper company's Web site (note: the company's platform is also used by the New York Times and the Washington Post in the US; the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian in the UK; La Vanguardia in Spain; and 60 regional newspapers in Germany): the company announced Monday that Philly.com, the Web portal for the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News, will use its platform to publish and distribute video, and will also leverage the platform's integration with third-party advertising networks to monetize that video. "Video has been a major element of Philly.com for several years now and we've continued to grow our in-house production staff to support the growing audience for our content," Jennifer Musser Metz, manager of projects at Philly.com, said in a prepared statement. "We needed an online video platform that could support our rapidly expanding video initiatives and enable us to offer new ways for our audience to engage with our content. Brightcove's innovation is unmatched in the industry and the advanced features and ease-of-use the platform offers will help us to bring our video strategy to the next level."
Philly.com produces a range of news, lifestyle and leisure video programming, including original series, such as "Philly Dish," "Philadelphia Business Today," "Philly Gossip," and "Down the Shore," that are hosted by staff reporters or local video talent. Brightcove claims that its platform will allow the site's video to reach a broader audience, and will increase audience engagement through such features as the ability to display the most-viewed videos. The company also says that its dynamic delivery capability will optimize video delivery for any end-user network condition.
