UK-based digital TV client software provider, ANT (note: the company recently said that it had surpassed 10 million units deployed worldwide--see the ANT round-up article published on itvt.com, April 13th), announced Monday that its ANT Galio platform has been selected by set-top box manufacturer, Humax, for a new product range of satellite, IPTV and hybrid set-tops. According to ANT and Humax, the new ANT Galio-powered devices are scheduled to launch before the end of the year and will provide consumers with a variety of new TV services and an "enhanced" viewing experience.
The companies say that their partnership leverages the extensive experience that both of them have in deploying set-tops worldwide. ANT claims that its standards-based environment will allow Humax to design and develop a range of new applications, while benefiting from reduced time-to-market, long-term standards-compatibility, and improved performance. "Humax is a world leader in the digital set-top box market," Sean Kim, ANT's VP and general manager for the Asian and Russian markets, said in a prepared statement. "This partnership will bring close collaboration as we work together to address the evolving needs of consumers of next-generation television services. The ANT Galio platform is fast, scalable and provides Humax with the flexibility to respond to market developments and consumer demand." Added Humax CTO, Jong Uk Kim: "We are always looking to add exciting new applications to our range of set-top boxes and the ANT Galio platform will provide us with a software environment that enables us to focus entirely on delivering a compelling end-user experience in the broadcast markets."
